The Fluffer Nutters (Pre-K 2):
We are excited about September in the Fluffer Nutters’ classroom! This month we will learn the letters Mm, Oo and Tt and their corresponding sounds. We will also review everything we've covered so far. The themes this month are “Money,” “Occupation,” “Tennessee” and “Fall Fun." We will learn where money comes from, the value of coins and we'll talk about making the right choices when it comes to spending money. We will also learn about various occupations, and the importance of each one in the community. We will take a trip through our beautiful state of Tennessee. We will find it on the map and compare it to the other states. We will learn its history, symbols and landmarks. We'll also observe the beginning signs of Fall and write a class book about why we enjoy this season. We will incorporate all the Tennessee Early Learning Developmental Standards in our daily activities.
The Great Grapes (twos):
The Great Grapes continue our journey through the alphabet this month, starting with the letter M. We will be looking at MONSTERS for our theme that week...but don't worry moms and dads, we will have lots of fun and no one will be having nightmares!! The second week of September we learn the O sound, and get introduced to a new shape: the octagon. The following week is a review week, where we will revisit the sounds of the letter A, S, M, and O. Look at all the letters we have learned! We wrap up September with the letter T, where we will take a look at our tongues and how things taste. That should be an interesting week! :)
The Playful Peanuts (toddlers):
The Playful Peanuts will start off September by learning about Mommy (for the letter M). We'l be showcasing our Mommies and learning about Mommy animals. The children will be making collages of animals and their mothers, dressing up like Mommy and creating art work that Mommy will cherish for years to come. Cooking will be fun as well, as we will make a special treat to share with Mommy. The Peanuts would also like to have a tea party for Mommy. Look forward to your child coming home wanting to turn on and off the lights, the radio and the computer as we learn the letter O and the concepts of "on" and "off." Later this month, we'll review the letters A, S, M and O. Phew! Toes will be the "T" theme for the end of the month. The children will explore different textures with their toes, from shaving cream to whipped topping to cooked spaghetti. Lots of painting will be going on, too! We will be enjoying outside water play during the last of the warm days as we reach the fall season.
The Whole Grains (twos/threes):
The whole Grains will be having a lot of fun this month learning about the letters M, O and T.
We will be exploring music, otters and tools, as well as reviewing all the letters and their sounds. There will be lots of hands-on activities and movement going on in the Whole Grains class in the month of September.
The Boisterous Bananas (threes):
Greetings from the Jungle! Our Bananas had a great start to the new school year. We met lots of new friends and learned lots of new rules and routines. We already learned about the letters Aa and Ss. This next month we will continue on with Mm (magnets), Oo (octopus), Tt (turtle), and Pp (pumpkin). We will continue on with our TouchMath curriculum and learning our counting patterns. We are focusing on 1-5 this month. We will also be sending Ready Reading Folders home this month. This folder is filled with activities you can do at home with your Banana that pertain to the letter we are learning about that week.
September is going to be a great month as our Bananas continue to learn and grow!
The Smiling Strawberries (Pre-K 1):
The Strawberries will learn the letters Oo, Ss, and Pp this month. We will study ostriches, teeth and penguins. We will make feather collages at our art center, and learn a song about a funny ostrich titled “Katalina Matalina." In science class, we will discover how plaque effects teeth, using vinegar and an egg shell to demonstrate this idea. We will also learn the song, “This is the way we Brush our Teeth." The students will talk about their favorite healthy foods and how eating them can keep our teeth healthy. In math class, we will talk about different species of penguins, make a graph of our favorite penguin and explore how penguins' wax coating helps keep them warm. Students will use wax crayons to explore this idea. The children have been carefully watering our garden every day, and we are anxiously waiting for our sweet potatoes to grow big enough to pick them.
Las Frutas de Dulce (Fine Arts & Spanish):
!De Colores! The leaves are going to start changing, so we are going to learn all about colors! “Color is the magic element in art,” and children love color. We are going to learn how to mix colors, learn the three properties of color: hue, value and intensity, and experiment with various of mediums including paint, chalk, watercolors, and pastels. We will be following the color wheel wherever it may go. Whee!
For Spanish, we will focus on colors and things in our home and school. The kids love to sing songs en Español, and songs are a great vehicle in learning a new language. Just start singing, “hands on my head, hands on mi cabeza,” and watch the children’s faces light up.
