The PB&J Women's Book Club's next meeting is Monday, July 19th at 6:00, at Jonathan's Grille in Cool Springs. We are reading People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks.

We have become a Franklin Live Green Business Partner. We earned over 160 points for being a conscientious and efficient business, which placed us at the Platinum level!

We are having so much fun in Summer Camps. So far we have explored the world of camping and the great outdoors. Cat in the Hat, Thing 1 and Thing 2 came to each classroom and read their famous book The Cat in the Hat. We have traveled the world learning about different cultures and trying international foods. Snow White, the Witch, and a Dwarf were our tour guides in the world of fairy tales.

Open House for the new school year will be held Wednesday, August 11. Letters are being sent home noting which class your child is in. Open House times are as follows:

The Playful Peanuts 10am-11am • The Great Grapes 11am-12pm
The Fluffer Nutters 12pm-1pm • The Whole Grains 1pm-2pm
The Smiling Strawberries 2pm 3pm • The Boisterous Bananas 3pm-4pm

Heat Exhaustion in Children

According to aboutkidshealth.org, kids are more susceptible to heat exhaustion and heat stroke because their bodies don't regulate their own temperature as well as adults' bodies do. Babies and young children are especially at risk because the surface of their body is high relative to their body mass index. They also are less apt to stop playing to ask for a drink when they need one.

See symptoms and treatment guidelines here. If you think your child is experiencing a heat stroke, call 911 immediately, remove clothing and cool her body by putting her in a cool bath or applying ice to her skin, monitor her temperature, and do not give her anything to drink.

To prevent heat-related illnesses from happening to your child, limit outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, stay out of direct sunlight or crowds when it's hot outside, make your child rest often in a cool area, take a water break every 15 to 20 minutes, dress your child in light-colored, lightweight, and loose clothing, and NEVER leave your child alone in a parked car.

Our Whole Grains classroom caught an American Toad on the playground and have decided to keep it for a little while. They have named him "Ribbit." He is eating his fill of mealworms!

The children are learning that Ribbit is nocturnal, which means he hides during the day and comes out at night. They are listening to a recording of the noises and sounds that the toads make, which isn't really "ribbit" - it is more of a trill sound that lasts from 4 to 20 seconds.
